C.C.E Winnipeg Branch
Minutes taken by Pam Jeffrey, Recording Secretary
Agenda: Noon Luncheon, 1pm AGM, 2pm Session.

  • We started the event with luncheon at noon, followed by the AGM, then a Session.
This event was organized by CCE Wpg Chair Susan Hammer, was well attended, with about
30 people in attendance. Location was the Deer Lodge Community Club, Winnipeg.
    AGM November 12, 2023 1pm
    Minutes:
    Board Members: Chair Susan Hammer
    Vice Chair Valerie Kitcher
    Treasurer Dave Strang
Secretary Paul Hammer * Recording Secretary Pam Jeffrey (new to the Board)
    Public Relations Officer Susan Hammer
    Irish Officer Maureen Taggart
Youth Officer Boris Leung (new to the Board)
Auditors: Gord Menzies and Barbara Goodwyn
  • For our newer members, Susan Hammer gave a brief explanation of Comhaltas whose
headquarters are in Dublin, noting that Maureen Taggart organized setting up the Western
Region of Canada. Currently, the Western Region has two chapters, one in Winnipeg and
one in Saskatoon. Strang is the Chair, Gord Menzies the Secretary and Chris Meek the
    Treasurer.
  • Future Plans: Susan noted that there are plans for activities and workshops in the
upcoming year and invited people to come forward with their ideas. It was
suggested that on the Irish Club’s “Film Nights”, we might have some live music
ahead of the film. It was noted that in the past we had a larger audience base
which allowed us the financial resources to bring in some “big name” individuals.
Hopefully, our audience base will start to grow again.
  • Clarification for new members regarding Irish Association and CCE. (The IAM is a local club
located in Winnipeg and is different from Comhaltas which is an international organization.:
Joanne Small at the IAM has been contacted about making the elevator more accessible as
some people including our musicians, find the steep staircase a challenge.
  • Acknowledgement: this year Al Amyot was the recipient of an award from
Comhaltas in recognition of his contribution to our association. Congratulation
    and many thanks to Al.
    Meeting ended 2pm.
Session: Following the meeting and refreshments, we had a grand session and played until
    4pm

And a few Pictures from the session held after the AGM. ( everyone was glad to get together again )
